Windows 11 24H2 Rolls Out to Preview Channel: What's New?
Typically, Microsoft releases new versions of Windows 10/11 in October each year. This year is no exception, with the Windows 11 24H2 update set for official release around October, followed by a gradual rollout to users.
However, Microsoft has already advanced the release of Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.712 to the Release Preview channel, allowing interested users to update and test it ahead of schedule.
This version is virtually indistinguishable from the final RTM version, with all major features already available. Over the next few months, Microsoft will focus on collecting and fixing any known issues.
Additionally, Microsoft is providing an ISO image file of this version through the Windows Insider Preview Program, enabling users to manually upgrade to Windows 11 24H2.
It's important to note that, although this version is virtually the same as the RTM, it is still in the preview stage and may contain unexpected bugs. Users seeking stability are advised to continue using the current official version.
Here are some highlighted features of the Windows 11 24H2 version:
- Support for HDR wallpapers
- Updated power-saving mode
- Introduction of the Sudo command for developers
- Integration of Rust in the Windows Kernel
- Support for WiFi 7
- Improved voice clarity
- Scrollable quick settings popup
- Resource Explorer can create 7-Zip and TAR compressed files
- Improved low-power Bluetooth audio devices
- Enhanced Copilot window
Note: Microsoft's newly introduced Recall AI is temporarily unsupported; this feature is only available for Copilot+PC devices, which will receive support via updates after shipping. Existing regular non-Copilot+PC devices do not offer this function.
