AMD Releases New RAID Driver Update for Windows 11 24H2 and HMB Support, Fixes Blue Screen Crashes
AMD has rolled out a new version of its RAID installation package (6.10.09.200), upgrading the RAID driver version for Windows 10/11 to 9.3.3.00117. This update primarily introduces support for Windows 11 24H2.
The updated RAID driver now also supports Host Memory Buffer (HMB), enabling an automatic boost in overall performance and efficiency when RAID is activated on NVMe SSDs.
Most SSDs on the market come with dedicated DRAM chips serving as a buffer to enhance write caching and reduce random access time. SSDs without DRAM chips typically support HMB technology, which allows the controller to access system memory directly through DMA (Direct Memory Access).
While RAID arrays create data redundancy, improving performance and preventing data loss, they may not be widely used by most home users due to the need for additional hard drives.
Note: There are various RAID modes, each with its advantages and disadvantages. If you're considering RAID, it's crucial to understand the differences between these modes and weigh factors like available storage capacity, risk of drive failure, and performance before deciding on a mode.
AMD RAID Driver 9.3.3.00117 Update Log:
- Updated the RAID driver and AMD RAIDXpert2 utility to version 9.3.3.00117.
- Added AMD RAID driver support for Windows 11 24H2.
- Addressed random blue screen of death (BSOD) issues.
- The new RAID driver version defaults to supporting NVMe HMB technology.
Important: After updating the AMD RAID driver, the system must be restarted twice consecutively for the driver to function correctly. This process is automatic with the AMD RAID installer, requiring no manual intervention. Users should not disconnect the power during this process to avoid software malfunctions.
Known Issues with AMD RAID Driver 9.3.3.00117 Update:
- Installation of the operating system may fail if it's not installed on the first RAID array.
- The RAIDXpert2 utility may fail to launch if the operating system username contains non-Latin characters, such as Chinese.
- It's advised not to remove NVMe drives during I/O operations.
- Failure may occur when removing the NVMe from the front tray after an array conversion.
- RAIDXpert2 may become unresponsive after array conversion or reconnection of a removed NVMe SSD.
- The RAID installation process takes approximately 3-4 minutes.
- After installing the RAID package with the first administrator account, logging into a non-administrator account and restarting the system will not trigger the second reboot.
