🎉🎉🎉 Microsoft Finally Restores Drag and Drop to the Address Bar in Windows 11 File Explorer
In the fall release of Windows 11 version 23H2 last year, Microsoft made numerous improvements to the Windows 11 File Explorer. Although these improvements, in conjunction with the tabbed feature, can enhance efficiency, Microsoft had removed the drag and drop functionality from the address bar.
Drag and drop to the address bar is a highly practical feature, allowing users to click and hold a file and then drag it into a specific path within the folder hierarchy of the address bar, thus facilitating quick file moving or copying.
After the removal of this feature, users were left with the only option to copy or cut files and then paste them into another folder, which actually reduced the efficiency of operations for users who frequently relied on this functionality.
Microsoft's response to why this feature was removed was that it was no longer supported, often implying that not enough users utilized this feature, leading Microsoft to gradually phase out less frequently used functionalities.
However, the removal of the drag and drop feature to the address bar prompted significant feedback from the community. Now, Microsoft has reinstated this feature in the May C-class updates, with a B-class stable version update scheduled for June 11 to officially restore this functionality to the Windows 11 release version.
Since the versions mainly affected were Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2, the restoration applies to these two versions. The original version of Windows 11 (21H2) still supports this feature and hence is not affected.
