QNAP NAS's Latest QTS Update Causes Access Issues, Firmware Withdrawn
QNAP, a leading NAS device manufacturer, has recently withdrawn its latest QTS firmware update, version 5.2.2.2950 build 20241114, after reports emerged of access issues post-update.
Users who upgraded to this version found themselves unable to connect to their devices after rebooting. Attempts to reset the system were futile, with errors indicating incorrect login credentials or accounts being no longer valid.
Additionally, some users encountered unauthorized change warnings at startup. Those who managed to log in were met with errors stating Python2 was not installed, despite it being installed, leading to core applications like File and Surveillance Station failing to launch.
There were also reports of SMB shared drives being inoperable after the update, forcing some users to temporarily revert to older firmware versions to regain functionality.
While QNAP has not released a detailed statement, support engineers have acknowledged the issue with the new version and confirmed its removal from the download page.
According to QNAP engineers, the update to version 5.2.2 encountered problems related to the DOM's second partition on certain NAS models. The development team recommends downgrading the system to version 5.2.1 using the Qfinder Pro tool.
Therefore, QNAP NAS users are advised to avoid upgrading their firmware to the new version to prevent potential issues and the hassle of downgrading later.
