Windows 11 Task Manager to Display SSD Types Such as NVMe or SATA
For enthusiasts who build their PCs, knowing the type of SSD they use is common knowledge. However, for those who purchase pre-built machines or are less tech-savvy, identifying the specific type of SSD might not be as straightforward.
Nowadays, most SSDs use the NVMe protocol with an M.2 interface, but there are still machines equipped with SSDs that utilize the SATA 6.0Gbps interface. These SATA-based SSDs tend to have slower performance in comparison.
Microsoft is addressing this by testing a new feature in the Windows 11 preview version that displays the SSD type directly in the Task Manager. This allows even non-professional users to easily check their SSD type through the Task Manager.

This update makes a small yet significant change to the Performance tab in the Task Manager. Where it previously just displayed "SSD", it will now show "SSD (NVMe)" if the new feature is enabled.
For those interested in trying out this feature, it is available starting from Windows 11 Build 22635.4225. Users can enable it using the ViveTool, with the following steps:
1.Download and unzip ViveTool to your desktop. For guidance, refer to the tutorial: "How to Use ViveTool with Windows 11 Insider Builds – A Simple Guide"
2.Review the usage instructions provided in the same tutorial.
3.Enable the new feature by executing the provided commands in the Command Prompt.
vivetool /enable/id:51978387
4.Restart your system, open Task Manager, and navigate to the Performance tab to see the specified SSD type.
