Microsoft's MSN Brand Returns with a New Logo, Replacing the Microsoft Start News Brand
Microsoft Start, a news and information website designed by Microsoft, was built upon the foundation of MSN and Bing. This brand was particularly noticeable if you've been using the Windows 11 widget panel or the Microsoft Edge browser.
However, in recent days, Microsoft has unveiled a redesigned logo for the MSN brand, leading to the replacement of the Microsoft Start brand with the rejuvenated MSN. This change will soon be visible to users within widgets and Edge.
Why the Brand Change?
Microsoft has not yet provided an official explanation for the switch. However, the Microsoft Start brand was somewhat confusing, potentially leading users to mistake it for the Start menu.
Another example of potential brand confusion is the recent release of the Windows App, which utilizes the Windows 11 logo but is actually a remote desktop application. This has also led to confusion among many users.
Adding to the confusion, the Windows App has replaced the RDP remote desktop application on iOS and Android platforms. Yet, on Windows 10/11, it requires a work or school account to log in, leaving most users to continue with the RDP app or traditional remote desktop applications.
These moves by Microsoft have led some to wonder if these are attempts at boosting KPIs, or why else would such confusing strategies be employed, only to possibly rename and rebrand again after a short period.
