Microsoft Confirms Issue with Windows 11 24H2 Unable to Install Routine Cumulative Updates for October/November 2024
According to the latest logs from the Windows 11 24H2 health dashboard, a new known issue has been identified for the version: systems installed via media such as CDs or USB drives may encounter problems completing updates.
This issue is particularly relevant under two circumstances:
- It specifically affects installations done through media like CDs or USB drives (including those made with the Media Creation Tool), whereas upgrades from previous versions are not impacted.
- The problem prevents the installation of the routine security updates for October and November 2024, although updates from December 2024 can be installed without issues.
The problematic updates were released between October 8 and November 12. If the installation media created by users includes updates from this period, it might lead to anomalies preventing the system from checking for and installing other updates.
Fortunately, the resolution to this issue is straightforward. The routine cumulative update for December 2024 has been released, and users simply need to install this latest update, which includes all previous updates.
The easiest method is to download the offline installation file for the latest cumulative update (MSU) and manually install it. The download link is available at: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB5048667
