Western Digital Releases Firmware Updates for SN580/770/5000 Series to Fix Windows 11 24H2 BSOD Issues
Western Digital & SanDisk have recently rolled out new firmware updates for several SSD models to address the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) issues that occur after upgrading to Windows 11 24H2. This problem is related to the Host Memory Buffer (HMB) feature in the system.
The SSD models affected include Western Digital SN770/SN770M, Western Digital SN580, Western Digital SN5000, and the SanDisk Extreme M.2 NVMe SSD 2TB version.
Users with the 2TB versions of the above SSDs are required to update their firmware. It is currently unclear if other storage capacities are affected, but the firmware released by Western Digital is specifically for the 2TB versions of the SSDs.
To update the firmware, users need to download the Western Digital Dashboard utility. Once installed, the utility will automatically check for the latest firmware version and prompt an upgrade if available.

- Microsoft has currently blocked PCs using the aforementioned SSD models from receiving the Windows 11 24H2 update. You can manually download the ISO image to upgrade after updating the SSD firmware.
